Paracord 550
What is Paracord 550?
Parachute cord 550 pound capacity, type 3 military grade, commonly
known as Paracord 550 is a very durable rope used for many outdoor
and work activities. It was first introduced in US military
parachute cords during the first world war, and this rope was
instrumental in being flexible, but strong enough to resist wind
shear and tearing. It also is woven and coated to avoid being
cut easily, such as when a pilot ejects and is surrounded by anti-air
flak. The rope is still used in the military today, but
it has also found several civilian uses as well.
Many retailer
and military surplus depots stock paracord 550, so if you are
interested in getting your hand on some, that would be the place to
start. If you do much work around the house or camp at all,
having this tool can make jobs much safer and easier!
Quick Tip: Wrapping a Knife Handle in Paracord
What kind of things can I use paracord 550 for?
Due to its durable and superior quality, paracord 550 is used
in a lot of heavy work and survival camping gear. Many people
use the cord to tow items, hang heavy objects or securely fasten gear
to their car or their packs. I know several people who cut the
cord into a small fragment, unwind a strand and use it as bootlaces
in their hiking boots. Anyone who has ever been hiking knows
that if your shoes aren't reliably tight and fastened, you are in for
world of hurt and paracord 550 fits the bill nicely.
Many
people keep supplies in their trunks for use in an emergency.
The pliable and thin rope is easy to tie securely, and with
sufficient length, you can pull yourself out of many difficult
spots. Paracord 550 should be an integral part to any car
emergency kit. As a side note, if you don't have an emergency
kit in your car, get one! You never know when something will go
wrong with a car!
When it comes to using the paracord 550
around the house, many household project are easier and safer with
some rope. You can tie a ladder to a house to keep it from
tipping if you don’t have a spotter, you can tie paint cans and
haul them up from the ground, which is safer then carrying them up a
ladder. A friend of mine made the mistake of tying his dog up
with paracord 550, dont do that! Tie your dog up with a chain,
you know fido got loose once he was bored enough to chew the
cord!
Camping with paracord 550 is also a good idea. You
can wrap the rope around the frame of your pack, since it is not very
heavy. You can use it for guy wires on a tent, hang clothes on
a line, or lift food, trash of waste high into a tree to keep out
bears and raccoons. Obviously, you want to use this rope for
climbing, it is fantastic as a climbing rope. It has enough
give that it wont hurt or cut you if you slip and snap your slack
tight. How many times have you gone climbing, slipped, and hurt
your leg from the pressure of the rope? I hate that!
Of course, there is always the option of rock climbing using your rope and there is nothing better in the world to use this for
(except of course jumping out of military aircraft!). Since I'm not
a big fan of heights, I skip the second choice, but rock climbing is
a very fun activity if you are a wilderness buff like me! Since the rope is high quality and resistant to snapping and fraying, it is
ideal for someone who wants to really put it through its paces!
So,
if you are interested in doing some heavy work or being in the great
outdoors, this rope is a must have for any adventure! Don't think
about doing your next around the house job or your next camping trip
without ordering some paracord!
